Salty food

Other restaurants that I wanted to try before the show were all full, so my friends and I walked into this restaurant. Although the restaurant seemed full, they were able to accomodate us and greeted us nicely. The decor was ok and service was ok too but the food........ I tried a lot of authentic Itanlian cuisine in Toronto...and this restaurant's food was, by far, below the standard I was expecting for authentic Italian food. The pasta sauce was salty...I sample tasted all my friends dishes...and they were all salty. This is not just my opinion as all my friends felt so and they kept drinking water. The portion is good but the taste...I wouldn't recommend the place nor go back to the restaurant.

The absolute worse experience

We arrived at 4:45PM without reservations but this was not a problem as only two other tables were in use. Service was slow, my wife had time to return to the Avon to pickup my glasses and come back to the table and we still had not been seen by anyone. This slow service peaked when we had to ask for our coffee three times before it was served. I had difficulty finding any spinach in my Ravioli and the Lasagna was over cooked. As I was signing my bill I told the owner about the slow service and my dislike of the Ravioli. At this point she became confortational, accused my wife of lying, telling us the waitress had received awards, therefore the service was not slow, there was spinach in the ravioli as it was made on premises, this was not a true statement as it was a premade type. She continued in this manner until my wife asked to leave the table as she was not interested in hearing our comments. As we were leaving, the owner continued her tirade by saying we were not the "kind of people" she wanted in her place. She need not worry, I would never go and will advise anyone who asks not to go as well. We had my wife's 90 year old father with us,in a wheelchair, and there was no visible handicap entrance and no sign pointing to one. Overall, the worse experience I have ever had.

You can do much better in Stratford than going to this place

We were greeted upon entering and our reservation was honored. The server appeared and told us that they were out of two of the entrees. The remaining menu entrees we observed left much to be desired with little variety. The manager (wife of the chef) came over and accused us of lying when we suggested that the internet did not address the lack of variety in the menu. She stated that she develops the copy for the internet and it always stresses pasta, chicken and shrimp. I indicated that the internet site I visited was not their restaurant exclusively to order" but rather one that describes many Stratford eateries. She said " we can leave if we do not see something we would like on the menu. At that time it was 8:00 PM and we had nowhere else to go. We settled for pasta and the kitchen eventually agreed to prepare some chicken parmegiana (previously indicated to be sold out). The management was RUDE, the food barely average and the evening was spoiled. We will never go back to this place. Thank heaven for the superlative musical play we saw at the Avon. It saved the day.

My girlfriend and I went in without reservations...

My girlfriend and I went in without reservations and almost went somewhere else because we were too hungry for the 45-minute wait, but since the theatre-goers were just finishing up we went for a walk and then returned. We had an amazing meal. Our server Pamela was so nice and friendly, and attentive to our meal/needs. The food was outstanding. Tasty, HOT, and perfect serving size. The only thing we didn't like was that the air conditioning (or some kind of cold air) was blowing near our table. However, that did not take away from the amazing evening. It is nice also to see the family-run establishment with staff that care so much about it's success. We will definitely return when we are in Stratford next time. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Our first visit to the new location on Downie Street and we were very mpressed. Nicely decorated. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The authentic Italian food is superb and portion size is very good. Every dinner has been wonderful.
