Health history

  • Talk to your health care provider about your health history and how it can impact your pregnancy.

  • Immediately stop smoking, drinking alcohol, or doing any recreational drugs.
  • Confirm with your doctor or midwife that any medication you are on is suitable to take during pregnancy.
  • Eat a balanced diet and stay hydrated. Ask your health care provider how you can exercise safely during pregnancy.
  • If your doctor does not deem your pregnancy high risk, chances are you can continue a moderate exercise regimen throughout your pregnancy as long as you are comfortable.

Prenatal plan

  • Ask your obstetrician about what to expect in the coming nine months.
  • You will likely have monthly appointments for the first half of your pregnancy. At this time your baby's vitals, as well as your own, will be reviewed.
  • At the midpoint of your pregnancy you will undergo a detailed ultrasound that examines your baby's body from head to toe.
  • You will have more frequent checkup as your due date approaches. Ask your provider about vaccinations, such as the flu shot or RhoGAM shot if you have a negative blood type.
  • Formulating a prenatal plan with your health care provider ensures you and your baby are well cared for throughout your pregnancy.
