1. They can reduce your risk for all kinds of diseases

  • Fruits are rich in antioxidants. Numerous studies show that people who eat ample amounts of fruits enjoy a reduced incidence of cancer, heart attacks and strokes.
  • Eating five to six servings of fruits and vegetables every day can lower your risk of ischemic stroke, the most common type of stroke.
  • People who eat eight or more servings a day of fruits and vegetables have a lower risk of heart disease.
  • Fruits are also high in polyphenols that may prevent or retard tumour growth.
  • Most fruits are low in calories and high in fibre.
  • Apples, pears and many other fruits contain pectin, a soluble fibre that helps regulate blood cholesterol levels.
