Unique gifts for the Edmontonian who has it all

Buying the perfect gift for someone is hard enough, but for the friend who has everything? Forget about it! Don’t hang your head in shame – instead, pick up one (or all) of these rare gifts for the Edmontonian who already owns everything else.

The Briefing Room

1
10151 82 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 1Z5

There’s more than just briefs to buy here. They sell socks by local company, Good Luck Sock. While every pair of socks designed by this Edmonton company are colourful, unique and generally awesome, the mustache socks are my favourite. They release mustache-patterned socks every November in honour of Movember, the month dedicated to raising money to fight prostate cancer. It’s a great gift for anyone but especially people who can’t grow mustaches for Movember. Women may be thrilled when they don’t sprout ‘staches, but men tend to develop a bit of a complex about it. Enter: Mustache socks.

Alberta Craft Council

10186 106 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5J 1H4

They sell awesome stuff, such as sculptures from Concrete Cat, an amazing local company that makes everything out of concrete. Their sculptures are often based on everyday objects but they make them into works of art. Get the sports fanatic in your life the Beau sculpture, a concrete baseball bat with a solid walnut block stand. Or, if you have a friend who loves photography, Concrete Cat makes concrete cameras that are stunning beyond words. Basically, anything from Concrete Cat will be unlike anything your friends or family already own, so gift away.

Art Gallery Of Alberta

Museum gift shops, such as Shop AGA, are always a goldmine of unique, slightly wacky gifts. For example? These wicked awesome wooden coaster cubes. They come in pieces, so you can put them together however you like. It’s like Jenga, but much cooler and much easier to win. It’s a gift that’s both fun and practical – everyone needs coasters but people rarely buy them for themselves. You can also use these colourful blocks to build a mini castle – or anything else you’d like to rest your coffee mug on.

The Artworks

10150 100 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5J 0P6

The Artworks is home to many cool items, ranging from gorgeous pen knifes to flowers. One of their most unique items is a Victorian Rabbit Candy Box. It does not feature a cute and cuddly rabbit. Rather, the rabbit looks a bit rabid, like it’s about to eat any candy you put in this box. Buy it for your friend who likes odd objects and/or taxidermy. It’s slighty creepy. It’s made in Germany. Sold.

Whether you’re shopping for a wee babe or yourself, is there anything cozier than a onesie? Perfect for camping trips or hanging out at home on the couch (or in the crib),onesies are versatile and comfy – plus, is there anything a baby looks cuter in? These stores sell the most adorable onesies on the market. [Image credit: iStock.com/martinedoucet]
Kombucha tea, a slightly bubbly fermented drink made with a green or black tea base, is a sweet but healthy alternative to pop. Makers claim it can aid in digestive health, plus it just tastes fantastic. Often made from organic, raw ingredients, kombucha teas have exploded in popularity in the past decade. These Edmonton shops carry a variety of brands, including some Canuck favourites.
