“I wanted to create a warm gathering space for people who live in Centre-Sud, a café where you can came to while away a few hours, alone or with friends,” explains entrepreneur Gaby Kassas, who openedCafé Sfoufin September of 2014. “It’s a neighbourhood I love, and have been living in since 2001. I wanted to bring my little contribution to it; there aren’t many independent cafés in the area, so now, instead of heading to the Plateau or Mile End, residents can stay in the neighbourhood and enjoy an excellent coffee.”
All kinds of people frequentCafé Sfouf: students, freelancers and families all mingle here. “I wanted an inclusive space that welcomed everybody and anybody who comes through its doors,” Gaby specifies. “And as a mom myself, I insisted on making it kid-friendly as well; so few cafés in Montreal make space for children.”
This spot has quickly become a neighbourhood fixture. People visit alone, or with friends or family, and enjoy the atmosphere and the welcome, in addition to the food: toasted, open-faced sandwiches, salads and Lebanese-inspired brunch.
