Upper Room Hospitality Ministry was established in 1984, when the soup kitchen first opened its doors. In 1986, the Food Bank was opened to distribute food to needy families. Both facilities are run by volunteers and paid staff, and rely exclusively on donations of food and funds. The Upper Room Hospitality Ministry is a non-profit, non-denominational organization. The non-denominational ministry is run by a Board of Directors comprised of members of the local community. The board works with volunteers and staff to raise funds, organize food drives, and raise awareness about the work and requirements of the ministry as it strives to help those less fortunate. Over the past 20 years, the demands of the ministry have increased as more families and individuals experience financial hardship. The ministry is a member of the Canadian Association of Food Banks, and organizes the distribution of food to other food banks and soup kitchens in the province.more...See more text
